As shootings continue to plague the District, city lawmakers are looking for ways to keep its residents safe — and D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson wants to lead the charge against violent crime in the city.Mendelson introduced legislation this week called “Evidence-Based Gun Violence Reduction and Prevention Act of 2023,” which includes five areas of focus.Violent crime is occurring at levels not seen in the District since the early 2000s. Wall Street capped its eighth straight winning week with a quiet finish Friday following reports showing inflation on the way down and the economy potentially on the way up. The S&P 500 rose 0.2% to sit less than 1% below its record set nearly two years ago. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped 18 points, or less than 0.1%, and the Nasdaq composite edged 0.2% higher. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Colts receiver Michael Pittman Jr. did not appreciate the violence of a hit he took from Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee until he saw video of the play.Pittman, the Colts’ leading receiver, cleared the concussion protocol Friday and was listed as questionable for Sunday’s game at Atlanta. Kazee, meanwhile, has been suspended for the rest of the regular season for that illegal hit and what the NFL called “repeated violations” of player safety rules.Pittman told reporters Friday he didn’t remember much about the hit, but the reactions of his loved ones told him it was serious. DENVER (KDVR) -- The Denver International Airport has a new way to prevent auto thefts this month, just in time for a busy holiday travel season.Auto theft has been increasing significantly year after year in Denver. According to a release from Meridian Rapid Defense Group, over 940 vehicles have been stolen at DIA so far this year. DENVER (KDVR) -- The Colorado State Patrol is asking the public for help in a deadly hit-and-run investigation.Thursday, Dec. 21, around 7 p.m., a single rider on an electric scooter was traveling westbound on East 58th Avenue, according to CSP. Driver wanted in Fort Collins hit-and-run that killed scooter rider When turning left onto Logan Court, CSP said he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on 58th Avenue.The rider, a 28-year-old from Northglenn, was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. CSP said the vehicle involved fled the scene of the crash.Now, CSP is looking for a 2004-2009 white Subaru Legacy Outback, with damage on the front left side of the hood and possibly the windshield. A local driver shared his story Friday after he said a large metal object shattered his windshield on Storrow Drive in Boston. Speaking with 7NEWS, Frank Lucas said he was driving home from an appointment and crossing under a bridge near Massachusetts Avenue when the object fell from above late Friday morning. “The projectile came straight down,” he said. “So, I never saw anything flying.”Lucas said he called 911. When state police arrived, he said they found what hit him nearby. Brockton police said a 7-year-old girl was found safe Friday after she ended up on the wrong transportation van at a local school. Police in a post on social media near 5:15 p.m. asked for the public’s help in efforts to find Alicia Vitoria Goncalves Teixeira.
