Rangers now focus on playing as well at home in World Series vs Arizona as they have on road ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have played only four home games over the past month, and lost all three in the AL Championship Series. Yet, there they were back at Globe Life Field on Wednesday getting ready to host Game 1 of the World Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. So is it really home-field advantage for a team that’s already matched a postseason record by winning its first eight road games?“We love playing here,” All-Star catcher Jonah Heim said before the Rangers worked out. “Throughout the whole year, we’ve played pretty good at home.”Except against the Houston Astros, which is why the Rangers went into these playoffs as a wild-card team that didn’t have home-field advantage until now.Game 1 is Friday night in the retractable-roof stadium that hosted MLB’s neutral-site World Series in 2020, the first year the ballpark opened. Texas and Arizona both had to win Games 6 and 7 of their respective League Championship Series on the ro...

Broncos defend suspended safety Kareem Jackson, arguing his hit on Packers tight end was clean ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Denver Broncos are pleased Kareem Jackson’s four-game suspension was cut in half, but some of his teammates still contend the NFL is making an example out of the hard-hitting safety by punishing what was actually a clean hit though it looked much worse on the field.Coach Sean Payton argued Jackson’s case via Zoom on Tuesday with hearing officer Derrick Brooks, who issued the two-game reduction. Safety Justin Simmons gave a spirited, nearly five-minute defense of his teammate after practice Wednesday.Simmons suggested Jackson’s hit on Green Bay tight end Luke Musgrave was actually a legal shoulder-to-shoulder strike that appeared on the field to be a helmet-to-helmet hit. It resulted in a 15-yard penalty, his second disqualification of the season and the suspension without pay that will cost him about $279,000 in lost wages.Jackson is also expected to be fined a fifth time this season for violations of the league’s unnecessary rough...

We should never have this situation in the city of Boston again.”Wu is scheduled to speak on Thursday morning about intersecting crises of substance use disorder, mental health issues an...

Former patient willed $500,000 to Auburn Fire Department for new ambulance, equipment The Auburn Fire Chief says they often get thank you cards and the occasional donation, but nothing has ever been so large that it will help for years to come. A few months ago, the chief got the surprise of a lifetime when a former patient donated $500,000.“This is the ultimate in paying it forward,” Chief Stephen Coleman said. “She’s going to still be able to provide assistance for people in a final act of kindness.”The donor was Debbie Virgilio, who was a regular patient of Auburn first responders toward the end of her life. With the donation, the fire department purchased a brand new, fully loaded ambulance, as well as new equipment for the department’s three other ambulances.“She was just always impressed with the level of care and compassion she received from the paramedics,” Coleman said. The department already had funds set aside to buy an ambulance, so Virgilio’s donation allowed the department to upgrade other parts.“Some very needed building repairs at our fire h...
