Editor’s Note: The video above shows KXAN News Today’s top headlines for June 26, 2023AUSTIN (KXAN) — Nurses at Ascension Seton Medical Center in Austin will start a one-day strike Tuesday morning "to protest management's resistance to bargain in good faith."The group of unionized registered nurses said this will be the largest nurse strike in Texas history. This effort is part of contract negotiations that the union says will improve the health of their patients and communities. A group of Ascension Seton nurses voted to unionize in September, joining the National Nurses Organizing Committee/National Nurses United. The union said it represents about 900 nurses, and 98% of those nurses voted to authorize the Tuesday strike. The strike will start at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday and last 24 hours excluding a three-hour heat break in the afternoon. SHANDAKEN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A fatal crash in the town of Shandaken has resulted in the death of one person. The accident occurred on June 23. The investigation revealed that Anna Maguire, 79, of Woodstock, was driving a 2002 Subaru Outback eastbound on State Route 28, when she failed to maneuver a curve.Police say Maguire crossed into the westbound lane, where she struck a 2019 Dodge Ram 1500 head on. ST. LOUIS – A man was hospitalized late Sunday evening after he and two acquaintances were shot at by unknown assailants.According to a spokesperson for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting happened just before 11:45 p.m. in the 4800 block of Northland Avenue, located in the Kingsway East neighborhood.Police claim officers were responding to a ShotSpotter notification in the area. While on their way to that location, officers were told of a shooting victim arriving at a hospital and telling staff he’d been shot on Northland.Officers went to the hospital and discovered the victim, a 35-year-old man, had been shot in the hip and was in critical condition. Five people were killed in a solo-vehicle collision on the 710 Freeway in the Long Beach area Monday morning, authorities said.The deadly crash occurred around 4 a.m. when a single vehicle slammed into an attenuator and caught fire in the northbound lanes of the freeway near the 91 Freeway interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol.The CHP initially indicated in its traffic incident log that other vehicles crashed into the dark-colored sedan but later confirmed in a press conference that only one vehicle was involved.“Our officers along with the fire department responded to the scene and determined this crash to be a solo crash resulting in five deceased parties,” CHP Officer Angelia Gonzales said.Authorities respond to a fatal crash on the 710 Freeway in Long Beach on June 26, 2023.
