Matthew Ormseth and Richard Winton | Los Angeles Times (TNS)LOS ANGELES — Tupac Shakur was killed in Las Vegas, but it was in Compton — home to both the rapper’s allies and his accused killers — where the aftershocks erupted. They started two days after Shakur was fatally shot the night of Sept. 7, 1996, when someone opened fired from a gray sedan with tinted windows and chrome rims on Alondra Boulevard, hitting a leader of a local Crip gang — as well as a 10-year-old girl.So began “the 10 days of hell,” said Robert Ladd, a former Compton detective who investigated Shakur’s death and the retaliatory killings that spiraled from it. By its end, three people were dead and 10 were wounded.Solving Shakur’s killing was not the responsibility of the Compton police, but as they investigated the back-and-forth shootings that stemmed from it in their own city, they quickly pieced together — through informants, field interviews and seizures of firearms and other evidence — a remarkably prescien...Jerry Seinfeld talks standup and ticket prices as he heads to Denver following “Seinfeld” reunion tease

When stand-up legend Jerry Seinfeld hinted at a reunion of his ’90s sitcom from the stage in Boston on Oct. 7, his fans cheered — first the ones in the audience, and then on social media. In an Instagram video clip from the set, Seinfeld called it “… a little secret for you about the ending (of the show), but I can’t really tell it.”Thanks to Instagram the non-secret is out, and the 69-year-old comic is heading to Denver exactly one week after his Boston set. His 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. shows on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the 5,000-seat Bellco Theatre might hold clues about the future of Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer. And it might not. Either way, teasing a reunion on stage will instantly make headlines, despite Seinfeld’s general bearishness on amateur concert footage.“I can’t believe people think other people want to see whatever stupid thing you shot on your phone,” Seinfeld presciently told The Denver Post last week, in referenc...Disneyland raises prices for tickets, annual passes

John Waters mania took over Los Angeles late last month, with an exhibit in his honor at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and the unveiling of the legendary filmmaker’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With October in full swing, now is a great time to check out the retrospective, John Waters: Pope of Trash, the first comprehensive exhibition dedicated to Waters’ ground-breaking movies, aesthetic and ideas. It ends on Oct. 28.We also recommend the adjacent installation, Outside The Mainstream, paying homage to the work of other similarly alternative-minded, non-conformist filmmakers such as Kenneth Anger, Jack Smith, Andy Warhol, Gregg Araki, and Todd Haynes. In addition to the exhibit, the museum still has screening events through the end of October too. As of this writing, tickets are still available for Desperate Living (Oct. 20), a double feature screening of Pecker and Cry-Baby (Oct. 26), and a double feature screening of Cecil B.
