McIlroy birdies last 2 holes to win Scottish Open, beating MacIntyre by 1 shot

GULLANE, Scotland (AP) — Rory McIlroy birdied the last two holes in whipping wind Sunday for a 2-under 68 to win the Genesis Scottish Open, his first victory on Scottish soil, and take a load of confidence into the final major of the year.McIlroy was one shot behind Robert MacIntyre when he played the slope to near perfection on the par-3 17th for a 4-foot birdie putt to tie for the lead. Then, he delivered what McIlroy called his best shot of the year — a 2-iron into the wind to 10 feet for a final birdie. It was a heartbreaker for MacIntyre, who was trying to win his national open and delivered a class shot of his own. MacIntyre hammered a 3-wood from the rough on the 18th hole at The Renaissance Club to 4 feet, pumping both fists when it dropped for a 64.It was a remarkable closing round given the wind that was rough and relentless off the Firth of Forth, and it looked for the longest time that it would give the 26-year-old MacIntyre the signature victory of his young career.Inste...Today in Sports – Joe DiMaggio’s record hitting streak of 56 games comes to an end

U.S. National security adviser Jake Sullivan doubled down on what NATO agreed to during its summit last week, saying it will be ready to admit Ukraine to the alliance once the country meets certain conditions.“We said at NATO very simply, Ukraine’s future is in NATO. We meant it. That’s not up for negotiation,” Sullivan said Sunday during an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “That’s something that now all 31 allies have committed to.”NATO leaders on Tuesday announced that they would be willing to invite Ukraine to join the alliance once conditions are met and allies agree — a move that was first met with disappointment in Kyiv.Following the announcement, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tweeted that he had come to the summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, hoping NATO would be an organization that “does not hesitate, does not waste time and does not look back at any aggressor … is that too much to expect?”On Wednesday, the Ukrainian leader walked back his criticism, saying: “I thin...Tornado watch, flood watch in effect for much of New England as powerful thunderstorms move through

It’s been an active morning with Tornado Warnings across the region. Stay weather aware the rest of the day. As of this writing (11 a.m.) a Tornado Watch is in place for a large portion of New England until 3 pm. This means atmospheric conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms, capable of producing tornadoes. Any tornados that spawn would be brief and weak, but enough to cause some damage.Torrential downpours leading to flash flooding is also a risk. Numerous Flash Flood Warnings have been in place this morning. A Flood Watch continues through late tonight. The system is tapping into a lot of tropical moisture allowing for heavy rain and extreme rainfall rates 2-3″ possible. The ground is already saturated from recent rain and the intensity of this rain allows for runoff and flash flooding. MONTREAL — Hydro-Québec says fewer than 2,000 clients who lost power Thursday due to a thunderstorm are still without electricity, but power has been cut to thousands of Montrealers today for public safety reasons.Around 14,580 hydro customers across the province were without power as of 11 a.m. Hydro-Québec spokesman Francis Labbé says public safety officials requested power cuts in Montreal Sunday morning that affected 8,000 customers, though power was restored to almost half of those during the course of the morning.Labbé says he doesn’t have specific information about why the cuts were requested, but notes they’re usually triggered by gas leaks or cars hitting hydro polls. He says isolated thunderstorms are also leading to new outages in several parts of the province. More than 392,000 hydro customers lost power during Thursday’s storm.
