Presto’s Pick: Navy and Notre Dame kick off the year The D.C. area pools may still be open, but my calendar officially turns a page this weekend. I like to say that college football offers the best regular season in sports but the branding of “Week Zero” keeps it from being perfect.I don’t mind the soft start to the season but “Week Zero” makes one want to say “Weak Zero.” And it’s still August! Do we have to do this? Can’t summer last just one more week? My U.Va. tailgating pals Kippy and Buffy aren’t even back from their cottage in the Outer Banks! See you next week for the first full edition of “Presto’s Picks.” Until then …Tai Lavatai was hurt for last year’s game with Notre Dame. Will he make the difference this season? (AP Photo/LM Otero)Navy vs. No. 13 Notre Dame, 2:30 p.m., NBCSo let me get this straight-the Midshipmen are facing the Fighting Irish in the capital of Ireland? Talk about a built-in home field disadvantage. This will be the third ...

Yale University settles lawsuit alleging it pressured students with mental health issues to withdraw Yale University and a student group announced Friday that they’ve reached a settlement in a federal lawsuit that accused the Ivy League school of discriminating against students with mental health disabilities, including pressuring them to withdraw.Under the agreement, Yale will modify its policies regarding medical leaves of absence, including streamlining the reinstatement process for students who return to campus. The student group, which also represents alumni, had argued the process was onerous, discouraging students for decades from taking medical leave when they needed it most. Why Hawaii loves Spam, and Spam loves Hawaii (NEXSTAR) — Hawaii loves Spam, and Spam loves Hawaii. It’s one of those undeniable pairings we’ve come to enjoy. That was especially apparent last week, when Hormel, the maker of Spam, sent five truckloads of Spam products — over 264,000 cans worth — and its non-profit arm, Convoy of Hope, to support recovery efforts after the devastating fires that charred Maui. Hormel is also selling a shirt, which reads “Spam Loves Maui,” online, with 100% of proceeds going to the Aloha United Way’s Maui Fire Relief Fund. The bond between Spam and Hawaii "spans decades," Hormel said in a recent press release. It all started during another challenging time: the 1930s.  SPAM gives back to the people of Maui in their time of need Hormel Foods introduced the blue-canned luncheon meat in 1937. Within four years, more than 100 million pounds of Spam — which is pork with ham, salt, water, potato starch, sugar, and sodium nitrite — was being sent to feed Allied troops during World War II...
