Bruins drop fourth straight, 3-2, in Minnesota

The Bruins looked determined to make amends in Minnesota on Saturday for their lackluster performance in Winnipeg on Friday. That lasted all of 20 minutes. The Wild wrestled control of the game from the B’s in the second period and, though the B’s made it close in the end, Minnesota came away with a well-deserved 3-2 victory at Xcel Energy Center. It was the fourth straight loss for the B’s.Whether or not the three-day Christmas break can fix what’s ailing the Bruins, they are currently broken. They have one regulation win in their past eight games. Their penalty-killing, once a key part of their identity, has sprung leaks. The B’s are missing regular defensemen Derek Forbort and Matt Grzelcyk, but their top D-men are struggling. Charlie McAvoy is minus-13 in the 15 games since returning from his four-game suspension. Hampus Lindholm, a 53-point man last season, has just 1-6-7 totals this season. And Jake DeBrusk, expected to provide some much needed secon...Lakeshore West GO train briefly delayed after 2 people injured near Burlington

Researchers at Western University say they’ve confirmed that a fire-generated tornado occurred in British Columbia this summer after a video of the “rarely observed” event went viral back in August. In a blog post, researchers from the university’s Northern Tornadoes Project say they began an extensive investigation after the video was posted showing an “intense vortex” over Gun Lake in southwest B.C. during a “raging nighttime wildfire.”They say the investigation was very careful because it’s the first case of a fire-generated tornado recorded by the research team at the Northern Tornadoes Project. The post says the investigation involved the help of witnesses, and they were able to pinpoint the time and location of the fire tornado on Gun Lake’s north shore around 4:45 a.m. on Aug. 18. Researchers say terminology around the phenomenon is “still developing,” but clarified that the Gun Lake occurrence ...Wild still rolling, beat Boston for 10th win in 13 games

The Minnesota Wild continue to roll under new head coach John Hynes.Kirill Kaprizov scored his fourth goal in four games, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 19 saves to pull within two games of passing Patrick Roy on the NHL’s career wins list as the Wild beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Saturday at Xcel Energy Center.Joel Eriksson Ek and Marcus Foligno also scored for Minnesota, which has won six of its past seven games and is now 10-3-0 since Hynes replaced Dean Evason on Nov. 27.Fleury, who made 40 saves in a 4-3 overtime victory at Boston on Tuesday, was sharp again, stopping two one-on-none breakaways to keep the game close before the Wild took a 3-1 lead in the third period. He has won three of his past four starts and now has 550 career victories, one shy of tying Roy, currently second behind Martin Brodeur (691) on the NHL’s career leaderboard. CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Nuggets defenders and Hornets fans held their breath every time a shot went up for a few unusually suspenseful minutes at the end of the third quarter. The Nuggets had briefly snapped out of holiday back-to-back mode, a malaise that overtook them in the first half and fourth quarter Saturday night. For the time being, that mindset was suitably replaced by relentless defense, aided by unwitting Charlotte shot-missing, in a staggering third quarter that cemented Denver’s fifth consecutive road win, 102-95, over the short-handed Hornets at Spectrum Center. The Nuggets (21-10) trailed 60-54 at halftime 24 hours after playing in Brooklyn. They proceeded to score the first 17 points of the second half, part of an extended 25-1 run in a quarter that ended 30-9. The Hornets missed their first 20 shot attempts of the quarter, needing 11 minutes, two seconds to finally score from the field and six minutes, 14 seconds to score at all. The latter drought was snapped ...Remembering Laura Lynch: 3 songs that all fans of the Chicks should hear

The Chicks might not exist without Laura Lynch, who co-founded the multiplatinum-selling country act — then known as the Dixie Chicks — back in 1989.Yet, Lynch is hardly a well-known name even among most fans of the band, which wouldn’t achieve widespread commercial success until Lynch was replaced in the Chicks by Natalie Maines. In fact, a lot of people don’t even realize that the Chicks even put out albums before Maines took over the microphone in time for the fourth full-length outing, “Wide Open Spaces,” in 1998.That’s a shame since Lynch — who died Friday in a car crash in El Paso, Texas, at the age of 65 — was a splendid vocalist and upright bassist who did such good work on the band’s first three albums.Related ArticlesMusic | Founding member of famed country group The Chicks dies in car crash In memory of this mostly unsung contributor to the Chicks’ mighty legacy, we recommend that fans of the...Patrick Mahomes says Taylor Swift is now part of the ‘Chiefs Kingdom’

She’s part of the team,” Mahomes told Nate Burleson on “CBS Mornings.”“It’s cool that she’s embraced Brittany (Mahomes’ wife), and they’ve built a friendship as well. For me, it’s just Travis, man. He’s lucky enough to be with a great girl and great woman.”The public reveal of Swift and Kelce’s relationship became one of this year’s defining pop culture moments, capturing the imagination of NFL fans and Swifties alike.Swift, recently named Time’s Person of the Year, appeared at a Chiefs game in September after weeks of speculation that the two were dating, during which time Mahomes said the team originally left Kelce alone.“At first everybody kind of stayed away, just let him do wha...Spurs rookie star Victor Wembanyama sprains ankle during warmups, misses game in Dallas

DALLAS (AP) — San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama was a late scratch against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night because of a sprained right ankle after stepping on a ball boy’s foot during warmups. The 19-year-old sensation from France returned to the locker room to get the ankle taped and wanted to play, but the Spurs held him out for precautionary reasons. It was the second time in three games Wembanyama was inactive. The reason was right ankle soreness four nights earlier at Milwaukee. The nearly 7-foot-4 Wembanyama played 22 minutes, one off his season low, in a loss at Chicago on Thursday night. The Spurs entered the Dallas game on a 1-21 stretch, with three consecutive losses since setting a franchise record for a losing streak for the second season in a row, an 18-game skid.Wembanyama is averaging 18.5 points and 10.7 rebounds as the No. 1 overall pick. He made his NBA debut at home against the Mavericks in October.___AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hu...‘I hope we take the scenic route’: Frederick Co. brewery closes following owner’s cancer diagnosis
