One of the biggest reasons people don’t buy electric cars is because they’re worried about where they’ll charge them. One company has a unique answer with a solar charger that fits into a standard parking spot.San Diego based Beam Global has a solution for putting more chargers in more places. It's called the EV ARC."Electric vehicle autonomous renewable charger. So, underline that word autonomous. This thing's not connected to anything at all. No grid connection, no power coming from the utility," said Beam Global CEO Desmond Wheatley. The self-contained, sustainable device looks like a giant patio umbrella. It has a solar panel on top of a battery bank, and it all moves to track the sun. That way the device can capture 25 percent more electricity than if it was a fixed array.Sunlight is converted into energy that can charge multiple cars at once. Not only can it charge your car, but there's also an AC outlet and USB outlets to plug in your electronics, too. Kaiser Permanente workers across America are gearing up for a strike authorization vote, which is set to take place on Saturday. The labor negotiations affect 85,000 Kaiser health care workers represented by the Coalition of Kaiser Permanente Unions. The County of Maui on Thursday released a list of the names of 388 people who have been reported unaccounted for following the Lahaina wildfire. The list was compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.Officials acknowledged concerns that by releasing a list of the missing, they would also be identifying some people who have died, in some cases before family members have been notified.“We’re releasing this list of names today because we know that it will help with the investigation,” Maui Police Chief John Pelletier said in an official statement. “We also know that once those names come out, it can and will cause pain for folks whose loved ones are listed. This is not an easy thing to do, but we want to make sure that we are doing everything we can to make this investigation as complete and thorough as possible.”Anyone who can confirm that a person on the list is safe — or who has information that could help locate a person — is asked to contact the FBI at (808)...Smith River Complex wildfire now burning at over 52,000 acres, still at 0% containment

LOS ANGELES — The U.S. Department of Justice sued SpaceX Thursday, alleging Elon Musk’s Hawthorne-based space company discriminated against refugees and asylum seekers in its hiring practices. The lawsuit alleges that between 2018 and 2022, Hawthorne-based SpaceX “wrongly claimed” that export control laws limited its hiring to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents. The DOJ said it has been investigating SpaceX since June 2020, when the department’s Immigrant and Employee Rights Section received a complaint of employment discrimination from a non-U.S. citizen.SpaceX did not immediately respond to a request for comment.“Our investigation found that SpaceX failed to fairly consider or hire asylees and refugees because of their citizenship status and imposed what amounted to a ban on their hire regardless of their qualification, in violation of federal law,” Kristen Clarke, assistant attorney general of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, said in a statement.Clarke added that SpaceX “...Angels’ Shohei Ohtani faces questions about future in wake of elbow injury

The baseball world was rocked when the Angels announced on Wednesday night that two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani suffered a serious elbow injury that has put his entire pitching career in jeopardy.Ohtani has a torn ulnar collateral ligament, the same injury that led him to have Tommy John surgery in 2018.Ohtani’s plan is to continue to DH, including this weekend in New York, while he and the Angels seek further opinions to determine his course of treatment, the Angels said.Ohtani continued to hit for almost a month after learning he needed Tommy John surgery in September 2018, and as a result he did not return to the lineup as a hitter until May 2019.Given that, it’s fair to wonder if Ohtani would choose to have surgery sooner if that’s the route he chooses this time. That is just one of many questions raised by the news of his injury. Were the Angels negligent by having Ohtani pitch? After General Manager Perry Minasian announced the diagnosis on Wednesday, he was asked several differe...Stanford football: Former Syracuse QB’s transfer to The Farm could be important step for Cardinal

STANFORD – The transfer portal has been mostly one-way traffic for Stanford football, with 17 key players leaving just this past offseason. But unlike past years, there is a contingent of incoming players this year, including offensive linemen from Penn and Harvard, linebacker Gaethan Bernadel from Florida International, and quarterback Justin Lamson from Syracuse.Lamson’s arrival in particular may signal a significant step for the Cardinal.Unlike some schools, football transfers at Stanford are required to meet the same academic standards as any other student.Being unable to retool at a crucial position such as quarterback through the portal can be a competitive disadvantage for Stanford. Every other team in the Pac-12 might start the season with a transfer QB as its starter. That includes all five Pac-12 teams in the AP Top 25 – defending Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams (USC), Michael Penix Jr. (Washington), Bo Nix (Oregon), DJ Uiagalelei (Oregon State) and Cameron Rising (Uta...Police cruiser crashes into Wells Fargo Bank in Orinda
