Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may no longer serve the British royal family, but they arrived at their World Mental Health Day event in New York City Tuesday like minor heads of state, riding in a fleet of seven blacked-out SUVs and escorted by a marked New York City Police Department vehicle. Its possible that the California-based Duke and Duchess of Sussex took extra security precautions with their transport around Manhattan Tuesday because they felt grievously threatened by paparazzi during their last trip to the Big Apple in May, to the extent they made notoriously disputed claims that “aggressive” photographers forced them into a “near-catastrophic” car chase that put the lives of themselves and others at risk. For their arrival Tuesday at the World Mental Health Day Festival, there appeared to be none of the “chaos” that NYPD officials said accompanied the couple’s last visit. The Daily Mail reported that their seven-vehicle convoy also ...GOP appears no closer to picking a new House leader

By Lisa Mascaro and Kevin Freking | Associated PressWASHINGTON — The House Republican majority is stuck, one week after the ouster of Speaker Kevin McCarthy, with lawmakers unable to coalesce around a new leader in a stalemate that threatens to keep Congress partly shuttered indefinitely. On Tuesday evening, two leading contenders for the gavel, Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, were scheduled to address colleagues behind closed doors at a candidate forum, but they appeared to be splitting the vote.McCarthy, meanwhile, was openly ready to reclaim the gavel he just lost, but was seen by many as a longshot option unlikely to win back the handful of hardliners who just ousted him.“This has been going on for days. Members want to come together,” Scalise said late Monday at the Capitol. “We’ve got to get back on track.”House Republicans took the majority aspiring to operate as a team, and run government more business-like, but h...49ers-Cowboys smack talk continues after Sunday night beatdown

The 49ers handed the Cowboys their worst defeat in the history of the rivalry on Sunday night, proving they are above Dallas in the NFC pecking order. And then some of the players reveled in the 42-10 victory.George Kittle, who scored three touchdowns in the game, posted a photo of the “(expletive) Dallas” shirt he wore under his jersey on Instagram, then discussed it on Monday’s Pat McAfee Show.“I might’ve been mildly inspired by our guy [former linebacker] Gary Plummer, who wore that in the ’94 NFC Championship Game versus Dallas,” Kittle said.“There’s some things that need to be worn for the franchise and I think it’s just coincidence it just happened to appear on my chest on ‘Sunday Night Football.'”Micah Parsons, the Cowboys’ star linebacker who downplayed the beatdown Sunday night, said on his podcast that Kittle had made it “way more personal than it had to be.“Kittle’s my guy, but I’m going to say this: Laugh n...Two arrested for series of armed robberies in Mission District

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals placed leading rusher James Conner on injured reserve on Tuesday following a knee injury in Sunday’s loss to the Bengals. It’s another blow for the Cardinals (1-4), who already are missing franchise quarterback Kyler Murray and two-time All-Pro safety Budda Baker because of injuries. Conner currently ranks eighth in the NFL with 364 yards rushing and is averaging 5.4 yards per carry.By rule, Conner must miss at least the next four games. The 28-year-old Conner appeared to get hurt near the end of the first half on Sunday. He tried to return, jogging up and down on the sideline in full uniform, but didn’t play another snap.Conner’s injury likely means more time for rookie Emari Demercado, who ran for an 11-yard touchdown in the second half. It was Demercado’s first NFL touchdown. The team also claimed running back Tony Jones Jr., who was released by the Saints.Jones ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns in the Saints...Business Highlights: The long-awaited Amazon antitrust lawsuit, Taylor Swift’s blockbuster tour

___The Amazon antitrust lawsuit is likely to be a long and arduous journey for the FTCNEW YORK (AP) — The Federal Trade Commission’s long-awaited antitrust lawsuit against Amazon is the most aggressive move it has taken yet to tame the market power of a company that’s become synonymous with online shopping and fast deliveries. Under chair Lina Khan, the FTC hasn’t been shy about taking big swings against some of American’s biggest companies in an effort to snuff out monopolistic behavior. But that approach has also led to some high-profile setbacks, most notably in its bid to block acquisitions by Microsoft and Meta. Now, the FTC must prove in court both that Amazon is a monopoly and is using its dominance to prevent competition from flourishing in the marketplace. A final decision in Amazon case will likely come years down the road.___‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour’ will be a blockbuster — and might shake up the movie businessNEW YORK (AP) — Movie theaters are readying for an onslaug...Springboks have earned back respect from referees at Rugby World Cup, Erasmus says

PARIS (AP) — One of the surprises of the Rugby World Cup pool stage was the only team not to concede a yellow or red card: South Africa. The defending champion Springboks were also one of the least penalized — 34, which put them among the top six teams. The least penalized was France, whom the Springboks face in the quarterfinals on Sunday at Stade de France.Asked on Tuesday about their relationship with referees, South Africa director of rugby Rassie Erasmus said, “The first word is respect.”He wasn’t kidding. Not long ago, Erasmus was enemy No. 1 among referees for a scathing hour-long video critique of the match officials in the first test against the 2021 British and Irish Lions. The gist of the video was right. The public delivery of it wasn’t.World Rugby sanctioned Erasmus with a nearly year-long matchday ban. Just weeks later last November, he was handed a two-game ban from match days and social media for criticizing the refs again after losses in Ireland and France...AZZ: Fiscal Q2 Earnings Snapshot
