Denver International Airport CEO Phil Washington on Monday blamed “unfounded partisan attacks” and obstruction tactics for sinking his nomination to lead the Federal Aviation Administration. He withdrew his name from consideration for FAA administrator late last week, in a development that became public Saturday night. For Washington, who was first nominated by President Joe Biden more than eight months ago, it was a frustrating end to a drawn-out process that included a combative confirmation hearing earlier this month.“It’s hard not to take it personally when people are making false accusations and taking cheap shots,” he said in an interview with The Denver Post. “However, I am a professional. None of this really surprised me.”Washington said he is committed to staying in the DIA job in the coming months — at least until the next Denver mayor decides whether to appoint a new chief executive after taking office in July. The military ve...Nuggets’ bench showing signs of life following statement win over Bucks

When Nikola Jokic headed to the bench late in the third quarter of Saturday’s statement win over the Bucks, there was no telling what type of game he’d return to early in the fourth quarter.Denver was up 90-83 with 2:07 left, which meant for a significant stretch, against the NBA’s best team, the Nuggets would have to hold their breath. Making the task even more precarious, the Bucks ran Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jrue Holiday against Jamal Murray and Denver’s bench. It could’ve been a recipe for disaster. It could’ve further raised alarms as the playoffs approach, suggesting Nuggets coach Michael Malone needed to shorten his already-thin bench.Instead, it yielded a galvanizing moment for a group trying to forge an identity. For roughly six minutes, Denver outscored Milwaukee 17-8. Jeff Green assumed the Antetokounmpo assignment and held his own. His efforts earned him a co-Defensive Player of the Game chain, along with Aaron Gordon, who also drew the assignment.Rookie Christian Braun...Cameron Patterson Dies in Speeding Collision on Madsen Avenue [Fresno, CA]

If there’s anyone who understands what makes pop culture snap and crackle on TV, it’s Fenton Bailey. As one half of the dynamic duo behind World of Wonder (the production company that gave us RuPaul’s Drag Race, DragCon and some wonderfully subversive films and documentaries), he’s helped shape reality television trends in a truly impactful way.(Penguin Books)In his new book, ScreenAge, Bailey shares his journey creating wildly popular programming and working with everyone from RuPaul to Tammy Faye Bakker. It’s a real look under the wigs so to speak, boasting behind-the-scenes tea about his fabulous universe and his work with WOW co-founder Randy Barbato. We’ve covered and worked with the pair numerous times and marveled at their ability to know what audiences want before they even know it. They’ve done so while breaking boundaries, especially for the queer community and drag (an art that is increasingly being threatened by hate and ignorance). Some on the island of Nantucket are dreading this summer. It’s not global warming or Kevin Spacey making a return visit that has them fretting, it’s topless bathing. It kicks off, or comes off, in a few short months.“I don’t want the season to begin,” said Nantucket resident Beth Barry, who said she’s not alone in that sentiment. “It’s like having a free strip club. So many people didn’t vote for it.”But the majority did. As the Herald reported last May, Nantucket Town Meeting members passed the topless bylaw 327 to 242. Then-Attorney General Maura Healey backed the legality of the bylaw in December before changing over to the governor’s office.Healey’s AG office stated: “We approve the Town’s vote authorizing any person to go topless on any public or private beach in Nantucket because we discern no conflict” with the constitution.Alas, John Adams did not see this one coming when he penned the Massachusetts Constitution.Barry, who said she’s not a prude but wants the Town Meeting vot...Celebrities balk at paying Twitter for a blue check mark

But some longtime users, including 92-year-old Star Trek legend Shatner, have balked at buying the premium service championed by Twitter’s billionaire owner and chief executive Elon Musk. After months of delay, Musk is gleefully promising that Friday is the deadline for celebrities, journalists and others who’d been verified for free to pony up or lose their legacy status.“It will be glorious,” he tweeted Monday, in response to a Twitter user who noted that Friday is also April Fools’ Day.After buying Twitter for $44 billion in October, Musk has been trying to boost the struggling platform’s revenue by pushing more peop...Latest news
