ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The South End Grocery's windows remain dark and doors are locked weeks after a fire extinguisher reportedly malfunctioned, ruining hundreds of food items, then a roof leak that Travon Jackson says he, his wife, and kids simply couldn't handle on their own."We did have three people come on this week to train and begin working with us, so we will be able to reopen next week with those additional hands," Jackson announces Friday. However, still hanging over their heads are unpaid loans with lenders Key Bank, Broadview, and the Albany County Capital Resource Corporation (CRC) demanding seven months of arrears. "I think everybody has extended themselves to very significant lengths to try to make this project successful, and things don’t always work out the way you want them to," says Kevin O'Connor, CEO of the Advance Albany County Alliance, which handles the loan on behalf of the CRC."Kevin has made a practice of talking to the news in a misleading fashion, ...St. Louis leaders react to recent jail deaths

Green called the deaths inexcusable and called for more transparency at the Justice Center and across city government.President Green's statement on the deaths at the City Justice Center:"Nine deaths in two years—two within two weeks—is appalling. This level of neglect and misconduct requires an immediate change in leadership at the City Justice Center (CJC) and greater oversight of our correctional facilities. These deaths are inexcusable; individuals at the CJC—who are awaiting trial and legally innocent until proven otherwise—have rights. CJC residents should have basic necessities, proper medical care, and the right to due process. Awaiting trial should ...City Academy celebrates 25 years of excellence in north St. Louis

COMMERCE CITY — The energy at Friday’s Colorado Rapids practice at Field 20 of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park matched the urgency of the moment. The players were making sure their teammates knew precisely what the coaches were relaying to them with positioning, constantly (and loudly) communicating during attacking drills and were zeroed in from start to finish. Denver hopes converting office buildings to apartments is the key to revitalizing downtown.Although some employees have returned to the office since the pandemic spurred the switch to working from home, the Downtown Denver Partnership said employee counts downtown were only 60% of 2019.Although fewer workers are commuting, vehicle traffic is 2% below 2019. But much of that happens on nights and weekends, the latest traffic analysis from INRIX shows. If people are willing to come downtown to eat and play, providing more options for them to live there makes sense. So, Denver spent $75,000 in federal money to hire Gensler to score 29 downtown office buildings on whether they’d be likely candidates to convert to apartments. The Gensler study shows 16 buildings are prime conversion candidates while 13 have potential.“Downtown towers are a different animal to demolish.
