HOUSTON — The Broncos messed around with the Texans and found out.The arms of Denver quarterback Russell Wilson are too short to fight with emerging Houston star C.J. Stroud. Even worse: Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton got clowned by Stroud for trying to intimidate a brash NFL rookie who refuses to blink.“I’m going to stand on business,” Stroud said Sunday, when he led Houston to a 22-17 victory. For Denver, this loss hurt far beyond the heart-wrenching end of a five-game winning streak and the damage done to its improbable playoff run. If the Broncos fall short of the Super Bowl tournament, this failed comeback will be a prominent and ugly chapter in their book of regrets.“You hate losing,” quarterback Russell Wilson said. For a full 30 minutes after he threw an interception in the end zone during the final seconds of the fourth quarter, Wilson sat on a chair in front of his locker, wearing his stained No. 3 uniform and cleats, and refused to hit the showers to wash away the bitter...Demonstrators march to protest L.A. We only had six plays and didn’t do well with any of them. And when it was all said and done, it was only 6-0, so we were able to weather the storm and get our rhythm back.On Purdy:When our whole offense, everybody, settled down, which included Brock, too, myself, I thought he played a hell of a game.On the Greenlaw ejection:I tried my hardest not to lose my mind. Hopefully I didn’t embarrass myself too bad. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was ejected from Sunday's 42-19 win against Philadelphia for putting his hand in the face of the Eagles' chief security officer.Dom DiSandro, a constant presence on the Eagles' sideline and whenever players are out in public, pulled Greenlaw off Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith after a reception in the third quarter. Greenlaw popped up and reached over two officials to touch DiSandro's face with a closed fist.Greenlaw was ejected. DiSandro also was told to leave and walked to the locker room to a roaring ovation from Eagles fans.Greenlaw also was flagged 12 yards for unnecessary roughness “I tried my hardest not to lose my mind,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. “I just can't believe someone not involved in the football game can taunt our players like that and put their hands in our guys' face. From what I was told, Dre did it back to him. He kind of mashed him in the face a little bit, so he got ejected.”Eagles coach ...Michigan vs. Alabama, Washington vs. Texas in College Football Playoff; unbeaten Florida St left out

Scheierman scores 24 points

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Creighton’s Baylor Scheierman grew up 75 miles from Lincoln, in Aurora, so he has a deep understanding of what the Bluejays’ annual game against Nebraska means to the state.Scheierman scored 20 of his 24 points in the first half as the No. 15 Bluejays built a 15-point halftime lead on their way to an 89-60 win on Sunday.“I started off my first four shots and then I kind of got hot a little bit,” Scheierman said. ”I don’t think we played our best in the second half, especially me missing a lot of open shots. But it means a lot, obviously, in this game to be from Nebraska and be able to have a decent performance. Credit to my teammates for finding me”Creighton (7-1) trailed only twice, the last time with 10 minutes remaining in the first half. The Bluejays then held Nebraska (7-1) to 16 points the rest of the half while hitting six 3-pointers, three from Scheierman, and 7 of 8 free throws to go up 52-37 at the break.Creighton, which avenged last season’s 63-...Northwestern overcame hazing scandal, firing of coach to earn improbable Vegas Bowl bid against Utah

Northwestern accepted an invitation Sunday to play Utah in the Las Vegas Bowl, which will mark the culmination of a year that started with a hazing scandal that cost the Wildcats’ longtime coach his job and ended with a surprising run under an interim coach who had been on staff only since January.“This group is hungry to continue to improve and finish this thing together and understand what an incredible opportunity is in front of us,” said David Braun, who had the interim tag removed when he was named head coach Nov. 16.The Wildcats (7-5) will make their first bowl appearance in three years when they play the Utes (8-4) on Dec. 23 at Allegiant Stadium in Vegas.Three months ago, a bowl would have seemed an impossibility.Days after last season ended, Northwestern’s administration received a complaint of players being hazed by teammates. An investigation found there were significant opportunities for coaches to know hazing was occurring and longtime coach and alumni Pat F...Latest news
